Aima Jensen. Photo: Lasse Nymand Petersen. Aima Jensen Aima Jensen was born in 1991 and grew up in South- ern Greenland. Aima has worked as a hoist operator on board rescue helicopters. She is also a trained pilot, commercial diver and has previously been a marine officer and had several jobs in rescue and operations in the Arctic environment. She is a familiar face to many TV viewers in both Greenland and Denmark. She featured in the DR documentary series Sled Patrol season 2, in which she followed the work of the Sirius Patrol in the harsh landscape of North-East Greenland. Later, she also participated in The Arctic Rescuers, giving DR TV viewers an insight into the demanding life at sea in Arctic conditions. Through both documentaries she has afforded viewers a realistic and down-to-earth picture of the challenges that people in Greenland face when working in some of the world’s most ex- treme environments. However, it is not only through the medium of TV that Aima Jensen has made a name for herself. She has also become a symbol of strength, perseverance and willingness to take the lead in situations when the community needs it. She represents a new gener- ation of Greenlanders, who balance tradition and modernity and who proudly pass on their knowledge of nature, handicrafts and survival in the Arctic, whilst elucidating the realities of modern Greenland to the wider world. The fact that she is now honoured on a stamp is, therefore, both an acknowledgement of her personal efforts and a symbol of the values that the Every- day Heroes in Greenland series seeks to showcase: courage, a sense of responsibility and a love for the community. The stamp is not only a piece of philately, but also a miniature story of a woman who at a young age has left her mark on contemporary Greenland. Lisbeth Karline. Private photo.
